Clothing choices are very personal. A lot of people just try to ‘follow the herd’ and dress like everyone else, but a few people decide that’s not for them. They want to choose clothing that speaks to them as a person, instead of clothing that ‘they’ say people should be wearing. It’s an admirable trait, but it can also lead to ridicule and other problems. If you’re going to truly be yourself, you should dress in a way that you’re comfortable. Don’t let other people talk you into wearing something you don’t like or that’s just not for you. Choose what you like.
There are few rules for life when it comes to clothing. With the exception of things like decency laws (that say you have to cover certain parts of your anatomy), you can wear pretty much whatever you want. If you work for someone else, and you’re around people in that job, it’s important that you follow the guidelines that your boss has set up for you and your fellow employees. At home, or on your own time, though, you can choose the clothing that you’re most at home in. If that means you wear jeans, dresses, or your pajamas, that’s entirely up to you.
It’s unfortunate that so many people feel as though they don’t have a choice in the way they dress in their private lives. What will people think?, they wonder. What does it matter what other people think? You are an individual, and you should be able to express that, within the confines of the law, without fear of judgment or ridicule. In reality, society isn’t generally like that. People are encouraged to conform. Dare to be different, though, and stay your own person as much as possible. In the end, that’s all you really have.
