Adding a little color into your wardrobe doesn’t have to take an expensive shopping trip to the mall. Instead, it’s easy to dye your own clothes at home, especially if you want to give your plain white t-shirts a little flair. The simplest dying option to do at home is cold water dying.
Very few things are needed to cold water dye your clothes. First, you need to purchase fiber reactive dye which can be easily found at many stores. Obviously, you will need the garment that you would like dyed. Lastly, you’ll need a large bowl and some cold water.
The fist step is to review the directions on the dye’s packaging since each brand may call for different measurements. Set aside the called for amount of dye in small bowl, then fill the large bowl with the specified amount of water. Make sure beforehand that the garment can easily fit in the bowl with room to spare.
You may also be instructed to add salt to the water. Once you have all the necessary ingredients in place, add the dye and mix until the water is brightly colored. After everything is mixed, place the clothing item into the bowl and slowly move it around to let the dye react with each fiber. From there, let is soak according to the dye’s directions.
After soaking, rinse the garment under water in a sink or bathtub until the dye stops running. It is recommended to wash the garment by itself one or two times to prevent bleeding.
With cold water dying, anyone can put some color into their clothing.
