Whether it’s laziness or just the desire to go shopping, most people would rather buy brand new clothes rather than fix up the ones they have. The fact is that unless the garment is torn or has started to get holes, it is still perfectly good. If you really want to get a bargain on clothes, just restore what you have now.
1. Sew buttons back on
Missing a button is the number one reason people discard shirts and jackets. However, it’s one of the most easy clothing issues to remedy. Even for someone who has never sewn before, putting a button back on is simple to learn. If you don’t have a replacement button or the original, don’t fret. Many fabric and crafts stores have a large selection of buttons or a new can be ordered from the garment’s maker.
2. Repair seams
From pants to shirts, the seams of any clothing item will eventually tear or rip at some point. However, if the rest of the garment is fine, a little ripped seam isn’t grounds for getting rid of it. Instead, seams can be easily repaired just be replacing the thread.
3. Remove stains
Typically, if a stain doesn’t come out after one wash, most people throw clothing out or turn it into something to wear while gardening or working around the house. Yet, by using some additional cleaning methods with liquids like vinegar or lemon juice, most stains can be easily removed even after having been washed.
4. Hole patches
Everyone has their favorite pair of jeans that they wear just about everyday. Such use leads to eventual holes, but they can be creatively covered with patches sewn from the inside.
Before you give up on your clothes, try to restore them first.
