The Different Kinds of Thrift Shops

It is understandable that most people tend to think that all thrift shops are the same. They all sell old clothes, so how could they possibly be different? However, anyone that has been to multiple thrift shops will attest that they indeed are different. Thrift shops will differ not only to what they sell, but also to whom they are selling to.

For one, some thrift shops will only re-sell brand name clothing. It is a way to sell used clothing at higher prices, but also a way for shoppers to get high quality clothing for significantly less. These thrift shops are great for shoppers that want a guarantee that they will find something of value, however, they won’t find it for dirt cheap.

Thrift shops vastly differ based on location. Those that are near more affluent areas are bound to have a higher quality collection of clothing since the local residents that donate will have better made garments in their wardrobes. Meanwhile, thrift shops located in college towns or hip districts are going to be stocked with more fashionable pieces.

Overall, there are two different kinds of thrift shops: general and specific. The general thrift shops will take and sell everything that comes their way. They tend to be much larger and have greater variety of clothing. Their counterparts are thrift shops that are trying to cater to a specific crowd and sell only clothes that that crowd would wear. For example, there are thrift shops that sell only used leather items for biker, goth or punk rocker crowds. You will also find a lot of urban thrift shops catering to twenty-something professionals.

After visiting numerous thrift shops, any shopper will see that they are in fact all different.
